ARUNDEL SCHOOL.
The social gathering held on Thursday evening in aid of the funds of the above school was a thorough success. There was an excellent attendance, the residents of the district turning out in force. The parents aad friends of the children had provided an abundance of provisions for everybody present, and refreshments were partaken of ad libitum. The committee erected a marquee at the back of the school, which accommodated 20 persons at a time, and thus left the schoolroom clear for the dancers. The members of the committee ace to be cou-
gratulated upon the success of their initial gathering, and it is to be hoped that they may have many more equally enjoyable and successful reunions. Dancing was kept up with great spirit till about 5 o'clock on Friday morning, Mr A. Fergusson acting as M.O. with his well-known ability, During the intervals the following musical items were capitally rendered, the performers in some cases having to respond to an encore. Song " We'd Better Bide a Wee*' Miss Scobbie; song, • Killaloe,' Mr Brian; duet, 'The Gipsy Countess,' Mies E. Meredith and Mr WGlanville; song,' I Can't Make Up My Mind,' Mr Howe ; song, 'The Little Hero,' Mr Glanville; song, ' Our Jack's Come Home Prom Sea,' Air Brian, and as an encore ' The Old Log Cabin in the Dell' (in character); song, 'Kiss Me and I'll Go to Sleep,' Miss Scobbie; song, • When a Maid of Sixteen,' Mr A. W. Campbell; song, 'Tit for Tat,' Miss Meredith ; song, ' All Nations,' Mr Brian, as an encore ' White Wings '; song, ' Old Jack's at Home,' Miss Scobbie; duet, ' What are the Wild Waves Saying,' Miss E. Meredith and Mr Glanville. The music for the dancing was provided by Messrs Paton and G. Rae, violin ; Mr Howe, accordian; Misses Meredith (2) and Glanville, piano; Mr G. Meredith, bones, the last-named being loudly-applauded for his excellent performance with the bones. Owing to the abundance of the provisions supplied the committee found themselves with a quantity left on hand. To dispose of this they held a small picnic for the children on Saturday, and the youngsters, who turned up to the number of about 30, soon made short work of it. The committee are exceedingly well pleased with the support accorded to them,
