ST. SAVIOUR'S CHURCH HARVEST HOME.
The " Harvest Home *' in connection with St. Saviour's Church, Temuka, (a substitute for the annual bazaar), was held last night and was a pronounced success. The drill shed was tastefully, if not profusely, decorated, and when lighted presented a very pleasing appearance. When the question was first mooted as to what change should be made in the form of the gathering some discussion arose, but ultimately it was decided that the most desirable method of bringing the church members in touch with one another would be by a social gathering preceded by a tea, and it was in this form that the Harvest Home was presented to the public. To Mrs Hamilton's appeal for assistance a j most liberal response was madei j Mesdames 3 Hayhurat, J, J. M. Hayhurst, J. Talbot, A. M. Clark, and A. L. Barker, each contributing half tables, while provisions in profusion, as well as donations in cash, were sent in freely by numerous other members of the congregation. Mr R. Pinckney, the churchwarden, as usual was indefatigable in his exertions as general manager, and he was ably assisted in the hall arrangements by Messrs Comer and Larcombe, who erected stage and tables, and by Mr Edwin Chapman, who gave a general but invaluable help. Mr P. Coira lent some valuable flags, and Messrs Dann and Beri some large lamps To these gentlemen the best thanks of the vestry are due, and also to the Caledonian Society for the use of their stage. Mrs Foster also kindly permitted her valuable piano to be used at the concert following the tea, a concession much appreciated by the singers. Proceedings commenced at half-past six by the Rev. T. A. Hamilton pronouncing grace. A busy hour or so followed, the numerous tables not being anything like sufficient to accommodate the large attendance. Taking the tables in order fiom the east end of the hall they were presided over as follows : —No. I—-Mrs J T M Hayhurst, and Misses Foster, Macpherson, and E Pilbrow. No. 2 Mesdames J Talbot, Phillips, Melton (Timarn), and Misses Phillips and Herbert. No 3—Mrs Wills, and Misses Wetlbey and Wills (2). After tea the tables were speedily cleared and the " social" took place, and a very enjoyable programme, details of which will be given in our next issue, was gone through.
