OUR VOLUNTEERS.

Ihe Temuka Rifles paraded on Good Friday morning at 1 a,m. at the Drill Shed, prior to joining the special train for the Oatnaru encampment, There were 33 on parade under the command of Captain Cutten and Lieutenant Whitehead. After inspection of arms and accoutrements the company marched to the station to meet the encampment train, which arrived at about 2.30. The train was well filled with volunteers, and upon the platform were a few enthusiastic townspeople to witness their departure. Oolor-Sergt. Coira and Corpl. Beri proceeded by the express on Thursday with the impedimenta of the company, so that on arrival at Oamaru the men should find all in readiness for them. Mr Leo. Tombs is entrusted with the company’s catering, his services in this respect at Moeraki being gratefully remembered. The Invercargill volunteers left for the Oamaru review on Thursday night. As the Railway department had decided to send them in trucks, and the weather being bitterly cold, rather than undergo exposure the volunteers determined to remaio at home. On subsequent representations the difficulty was got over by the department conceding the use of carriages. Oamaru, March 26. Volunteers are arriving in large numbers for the encampment, and fully 2000 are expected to be present. The weather gives promise of being fine.
