AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS, TIMARU. 1 Mr B. R, Guinness, for the New Zealand Loan' and Mercantile Agency Company,Limited, reports for the week ending March 21st ; Sheep—Entries at the various fixtures, especially Geraldine and Tetnuka, throughout the district have been large, the attendance of buyers being also numerous. Business in this class ot stock has been very brisk. The exchanges both by auction and privately have considerably exceeded previous years' transactions for the corresponding month. Cattle—The demand for prime beef is slightly better/and prices are inclined to advance. Stores: Wellgrown steers in forward condition suitable for fattening, are in request, and any lines placed on the market me<b with fair demand up to a certain figure. Temuka Yards—At these yards a large entry came 'forward/ In conjunction with Mr A. E. Cox, on the 24th ultimo, we disposed of the following lines:—l42 fat crossbred ewes at 11 s 3d to 12s 9d, 602 6 and 8-tooth do do at 9s 9d, 288 half-bred 2-tooth wethers at 10s 4d, and several pens of cattle from £2 17s 6d to £8 15s, also pigs from 9a to 15s pefjhead. On the 10th in st., a full with a large attendance and satisfactory sales, viz., 129 fat crossbred ewes and wethers at 14s Id, 85 dp do at 13s, 1 161 do do at 12s 4d, 180 fat half and three-quarter-bred ewes at lls, 189 crbsshred lambs at 10s, 139 do do culls at 7s sd, 128 old crossbred ewes at 4s 10d, 128 halfbred ewes at 5s Bd, 213 crossbred lambs at 9s 6d, 108 crossbred ewes at 9s 'Sd, 1 and 20 hbad cattle at various prices; 18 pigs from 9a Bd to 10a, Geraldine Tarda—On the 4th inst., in conjunction with Mr A. E. Cox, there was a heavy entry of about 8000 sheep of all sorts, with a large proportion of merinos. Thd sale was brisk from start to finish, not a line leaving the. yards to onr knowledge unsold. The following sales were effected by us at auction;—ll2 old half-bred ewes at 5s 10d, 247 old merino do at Is lOd, £>B fat 1 half-bred do at 9s 9d, 72 prime fat merino wethers at 10s lid, 25 half-bred do at 10s lid, 277 three-quarter-bred lambs at 8s 6d, 411 half-bred cull lambs at 6s 4d, 140- three-quarter-bred do at 7a lid, 280 three-quarter-bred lambs at 9s 4d, 824 merino ewes from 4s Id to 5s Bd, 243 half-bred 2-tooth wethers at 10s 4d, and 250 2-tooth half-bred ewes at 10s 9d, also a few lines of cattle. On the l9fch inst. another large entry was" yarded and good business done:—100 fat crossbred ewes at lls 3d, 70 prime fat 2-tooths at 13s 3d, 39 fat three-quarter-bred lambs at 10s Bd, 175 half-bred lambs at 9s 6d, 50 do culls.at 7s, 703 merino ewes at ss, 229 half-bred ewes at 10a Id, 122 old merino ewes at 2s 6d, 179 8-tooth do at 5s 7d, 120 half-bred at 8s 6d, and 16 head cattle from 25s to 35s per head. Sheepskins Our sales privately and by auction comprised 4407 skins; prices realised as follows: —Best factory pelts, at 2s Bd, 2s lOd to 3s; lambskins, at 2s 9d,. 2s lOd to 3s; butchers’ best, at 1 2a 6d to 2s 8d; second, Is 9d to 2a ; country according to condition, etc. Eat—We have quitted all on hand at late quotations: ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 22. Tallow, medium beef,‘ 2Sa 6d. Since the close of the wool Bale the market has been quiet. The arrivals up to date total 200,000 bales, ot which 64,000 bales have been sent forward. The wheat market is quieter, but prices are being maintained, Australian supplies are short. Hides, salted, heavy ox, 3|d ; ditto cow, 3|-d.,
