TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held last evening. Present — Messrs W. Storey (chairman), J. W. Yelvin, GK H. Mogridge, E. Brown, P. McOaskill, and W. Wills. COBEBSPOITDBirOE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows t Prom the Education Board covering forms of abstract of the school fund accounts for the year ending 31st 31st March, and requesting that the same accurately filled up might be sent to the office together with the committe’s annual report by April sth, 1691. From the chairman of the Waihao school committee, stating that that body had nominated Mr W. t'toreytotLe vacancy on the Education Board caused by the lamented death of the late Mr Biobard Barker,
From the Rey, W. -I. William*, thanking the committee for nominating him to (he Education Board and consenting to inch nomination. From the Education Board, itating that the sum of £5 would be granted towards the expense of grading the floor in the infant room, and farther that the board’s inspector would inspect (he roof of the school at an early date. Prom the School Committee, Timaru, asking the local committee to support the nomination of the Rev. J, Williams to the Education Board. Prom Mr H. Watts, stating that be had baea nominated by the Waimate School Committee to the vacancy on the Education Board caused by the resignation of the Be>. G. Barclay, and soliciting the oemmittee’s vote. Prom Mr W. Balfour, stating that he had been nominated to the vacancy upon the Education Board caused by the death of the late B, A. Banker Eiq., and asking for the support of the committee. Prom the Education Board, stating that Messrs G. H. Rhodes, W. M. Moore, H. Watts, and the Rev. W. J, Williams had been nominated to the vacancy on the board caused by the Rev. G. Barclay’s resignation, and that Messrs W. M. Moore, W. Balfour, and W. Storey, bad been nominated to the vacancy caused by the death of Mr R. A, Barker, and requesting (he committee to record its vote on or before 31st March. hbad Master’s report.
The Head Master’s report was read as follows “ Sir, —I have the honor to submit the fallowing report for the month of February : Boys. Girls. Total Average weekly roll 187 5 168 355.5 Average attendance 154.8 138.4 293.2 Highest attendance 159 146 305 “ The bell io injured to such an extent as scarcely to be audible even within the school grouuds, and it would help in preserving punctuality if it were repaired soon. “ The pump at the tanks is again out of order. It is arranged in euch a way aa to make it impossible to keep it in order, owing to one of the screws. A very slight alteration would render it fit for constant use. “I shall require 1000 absentee forms and an ink-well filler.—l have, &0., “ W. Brtars.” It was resolved that the secretary write to the Education Board with the view of procuring a new bell, It was decided to procure 1000 absentee forms, and also to obtain an ink-well Alter. VISITOR. Mr Yelvin, as visitor for the past month, reported that the work of the school on the occasion of his visit appeared very satisfactory. The fence between the boys’ and girls’ playground at the baok required attention. He anggested that the spouting should be cleaned prior to wet weather. Ihe pump required repairing, and there was an overflow of water from the pit sunk to receive the drainage. The headmaster had drawn bis attention to maps required, and also to the advantages of a graded floor in the infants’ room. It was resolved that the chairman see the architect, and ascertain if a specifleation of the work required in grading the floor will be supplied free of cost to the committee, and if not the position to be explained to the Board of Education, as the sum voted wsc by no means adequate for the work. The chairman was requested to arrange about repairs to the pump. The secretary was aiked to inspect the surroundings of the pump, with a view to securing proper drainage. He was also
requested to ascertain particulars of maps required. EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION. It was resolved that the committee record its vote ia favor of Mr Williams for the vacancy caused by the Rev. G. Barclay's resignation, and for Mr W. Storey for the vacancy caused by Mr B. A. Barker’s death, VISITOR, Mr Mogridge was appointed visitor for the month. BASTBB HOLIDAYS. It was resolved to close ebe tchool from Thursday, March 26, and reopen on Monday, April 6th. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £3 2s were passed for payment. ANNUAL BBPOET. The chairman and secretary were Appointed ta prepare the annual report, and submit the same to a special meeting of the committee to be held prior to the m 'eting of householders. The meeting then terminated.
