AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last night. Psesent—Messrs J. Ashwell (chairman), E. Brown, A. Frew, A. Bussell, and E. Carr. oq:ws?q:nj>inoe. Correspondence was read— From Property Tax Commissioner, enclosing form of application to be filled up to entitle the Board to receive 75 per cent of subsidy on rates collectable for current year.—The clerk had attended to the matter. From Mr Wm. Storey, asking that the name of Mr C. J. Newbury might be substituted for his en the roll in respect of sections numbered 227 to 232—1£ acres. —Mr Newbury's consent to be obtained, and the request then to bp granted, From the Commissioner of Grown Lands, stating that plans were being prepared showing proposed garden reserves along the Arowhenua Creek, and that they would be sent for the concurrence of the board before having the reserves made by (gazette. INIERTIBWS. Mr Oldfield applied for material for a erosßing to his premises,—lt was moved: " That, in accordance with a previous resolution of the board, Mr Oldfield be informed that he will be allowed to put down a crossing subject to the overseer's approval, but that material cannot be provided by the board."

Mr Douglas waited upon the board in reference to the fence of his section, part of which is now upon the roadline. He asked that an opportunity be given him to find his proper boundary, the line of which he had lost when the proposed extensions to the creek were surveyed. He asked if the overseer might be allowed to assist

him in finding the boundary.—The chairman said that there waß only one course open : If the fence was on the road it must be shifted. Any arrangement made with the overseer must be in his private capacity. The boaid would not ask him to give his time and skill to find the pegs of the section.— After some consideration the chairman intimated that the fence must be removed at once.

Mr Douglas further stated he wished to lodge a complaint to the effect that Mr Geo. Washington had a pigstye and stable in such a position that the drainage therefrom polluted the creek. The stable and piggery were on Government ground. He had also planted willows along the creek which were gradually causing an obstructioa. —Mr Douglas was informed that if his complaint wes put in writing it would receive attention.

DANGEBOTJS BEIDQE. The chairman said that he was informed that there was a very narrow bridge near Mr Manning's. It was without a handrail, and was dangerous. The overseer was instructed to widen the bridge, and put a handrail to it at once, on the motion of Mr Russell, seconded by Mr Brown. StfBFACE WATEB. The chairman said Mr Alma Edgeler had eomplained to him of water flooding his land. He had seen the place at the time of the recent rain, and a certain amount of water was running from the road. A little labor would put it right. The overseer to report, BENTS OS" BESEBVES. It was resolved that the clerk obtain payment of overdue rates by the end of the current financial year. Palling payment the board will resume possession of reserves and take legal proceedings to recover the rents due. otebseeb's bepobt. The overseer's report was read and dealt with as follows : " Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that sioce last meeting a portion of the oreek has been cleaned, and as a consequence the water has drained away in a very satisfactory manner. A portion yet remains to be done, and I rould ask the board's instructions as to whethe; the work ia to be continued. In view of wet weather I would etk the board to pass some resolution te croesinge. In several places temporary crossings have blocked the water-tab'es, and the Burfaceman reports thai the loada have been partially flooded in consequence. It has alao be»D a common custom to cut down pathways, and this should be put a stop to by reao otion or otherwise. For sanitary purposes I allowed the night-soil contractor to take shingle from the board's gravel reserve in Hamilton street. It was used to fill in an old cesspool. Tenders have been invited for cartiDg shingle, in accordance with resolution passed-at last meeting, and will be laid before you this evening.—I have, etc., 6" Aifd. W. Gaze." It was resolved that Ihe creek be cleaned as far as Tavender's bridge on the north belt. In reference to crossings it was decided that if any serious case of damage to footpaths occur that the overseer report at once. The action of the overseer in taking steps to abate a nuisance was approved. MB DOTOLAS's COMPLAINT.

Mr Douglas forwarded a letter stating that the water of the creek near his place was polluted by drainage from a pigstye and stable upon a reserve occupied by Mr Washington, and that there weie poplars planted along the creek, the roots of which were obstructing the creek. The overseer to report at next meeting. TEHDEBS. The following tenders were received for carting shingle for repairs:— T. Leonard, Is 3d per yard; T. Greedy, Is Id; T. Davis, Is Ofd; J. Davies, 10H; E. Counihan, lOf d (accepted by lot). ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £ll 15s 6d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
