the Canterbury Farmers’ Association Limited, repoit as under: the week several samples hare been offered and fn most cases sdd at last week’s valuation?. Prices remain steady at from Os 4d to 8s 5d for tuscan, 3s 3d to 3s 4d for velvet, and 8s 3d to 3s for red chaff. Oats —I here has been a fair enquiry for both milling and good feed at last week’s quotations, and sales have been made at—ls 7|d for Canadians, Is for dune and tartars, and Is 4£d for danish- Good Ijrigpt tartars fit for seed could probably be sold at Is §d ov Is f.o.b. Barley—Several samples of this year’s barley have been offering, but in most cases are thin and of bad color. Values are from 2s 8d to 3a for primo malting, but inferior and feed lots aro unsaleable.
Potatoes —Seveaal buyers are in the! market, and are open to purchase any' lots offering, at from 30s to 35a f.o.bi, delivery next month. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT'S. TIMARU. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight as follows : is very little demand for. draught horses at present; only a few have changed owners since our last report, and there is not much prospect of any improvement till ploughing commences. We quote medium farm horses at up to £2O, aged and inferior at £8 to . £l2. Hacks —medium £8 to £l2 10a, light and weedy £2 .to £6. Sheep—The demand for stores continues, and there is little difficulty in disposing of all lots coming fsrward. At Pleasant Point on the let insfc., 5500 sheep and lambs were yarded, and nearly every line changed bands. We sold 1100 merino ewes at 2s 6d to 2s 9d, 100 merino ewes at 5s Id, 122' crossbred ewes at 9a Id. 60 fat ewes atlls, 60 do do at 10s 3d, 60 do do at 11s 9d, 40 2-tooths at 13s, 866 crossbred lambs at 9s, 122 half-bred ewes at 11s 6d. At Washdyke on the sth inst, there was a very large entry of stores, but the prices asked for some of the large 'lines were higher than graziers’ estimate of Their value, and these were‘passed in at auction. We sold 700 crossbred ewes at Bs, 8s 6d, 9s, 9s 6d, 206 4-tooth crossbred wethers at 12s. Cattle —We have again to report a good demand for -3-year-old steers in forward condition, other sorts being difficult to clear off at any price. At Pleasant Point we sold 4 head ati 50a, cows 22s 6d to 50s, yearlings 17s to 18s 6d, calves 7s, At Washdyke 4 bullocks at £6 2s 6d, 3do at £5,1 do at £4 15s, 1 heifer at £2 7e, 5 head at 21s.
■ Sheepskins—At our sale on the 25th February, our catalogue was a small one and prices realised were satisfactory. Pelts, light 9d to la 6d, medium 2s to 2s Bd, country skins 3s to 4s 9d, lamSskins 2s to 2s 7d. Privately we placed 5200 factory skins at Tull rates. Tallow—We sold over two tons of rough fat at iOs 6d, 11s, 11a 6d, to 12s per cwt., according to quality.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 6. ; A boom has taken place in the wheat market, owing to French demands consequent upon the bad prospects of the harvest. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 107, active ; 3£ do, 97£. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 39a 9d, market firmer. For New Zealand wheat oh passage sellers are asking 88s 6d, but buyers refuse to give more than 38s. ■Mutton, Canterbury, 4-g-d; Wellington, 4|d. New Zealand beef, forequarters, 3 11-16 d. Hemp, Auckland, fair quality, averages £25 15s; Wellington do, £24; inferior, £2l 2s 6d. March 7. A cargo of New Zealand wheat, April shipment, has been sold at 37s 6d. Butter ex R.M.S. Kaikoura is realising 114 s per cwt.
