Owing to the heavy downfall of rain the rivers hare swelled and a freßh is running out of the Waitara river too strong for the Gairlook to steam against, so she oame on the breakwater. The lowlands on the banks of the Waiwakao are flooded and the Chinamaa's garden was washed away and his horse drowned. Taupo Quay is partly submerged and danger is threatened to the boatsheds. Several small bridges are reported to be washed away. Many stacks came down whole. An extraordinary heavy rainfall was experienced last night, 4£ inches haying fallen in 24, hours, which is the heaviest rainfall recorded here. All the rivers are in high flood. The Kailway Commissioners has received a telegram to the effect that a portion of the railway line at Bonnie G-lem near Turakina, on the Palmereton-Wanganui line,was washed away by the floods and through traffic is impeded.
