GERALDINE COUNTY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the council of the above society was held on Monday last at the Crown Hotel, Temuka. Present —Messrs A. M. Clark (president, in the chair), J. Murray, M, Quinn, E. Cntten, J. Velvin, J- S. Hayes, W. G, Aspinall, and Robt. Pinckney (hon. sec.). After some routine business had been disposed of, corresp ndenca was read from Mr White, of Wimbledon, Hawke’a Bay, relative to Angora goats. After some consideration bad been given to same, the secretary was instructed to acknowledge receipt, with thanks. The chairman drew attention to a valuab‘e forage plant, laihyrus sylvestris, and the secretary read an interesting article from the N.Z. Farmer#’ Journal relating to the same, its method of culture, and its value for feed purposes; It was suggested that its introduction might prove of advantage to the district, and the secretary was : instructed to make enquiries in connection with s»me. He was a’so requested to write to Dr Douglas and the Secretary of the Southland Acclimatisation Society for particulars of regulations in force there for netting trout, , , On the motion of Dr Hayes, seconded by Mr Murray, it waa resolved to apply to the Minister of Marine for the customary permission for netting lakes ; the same with the view of utilising the Mackenzie Country lakes. It was also decided to write to tbe South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society with the view of formulating some scheme for keeping open the mouth of the Opibi, and to ask that an answer may bo sent by the date of annual meeting.
It was resolved to recommend Government to open the shooting season on April Ist and close the same on 30th June, the secretary to communicate with kindred societies with the view of securing unanimity. Messrs Cullen, Velvin, and the Secretary were appointed a sub-committee to revisa rules and to make recommendations regarding the same to be laid before the annual meeting. Accounts amounting to £l6 6s were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
