oterseee's report. The overseer’s report was read, and was to the following effect: — Owing to the Timaru Gas Company not fcbeing able to supply tar, 200 gallons had been procured for the asphalt contractors from the Ashburton Company. From Dyson street to Ewen road the footpath had received two courses of well riddled material, all duly mixed, and the greater part of the footpath had also had a third course. Extra rolling had been required owing to the trespass of horses and cattle. More material than that excavated had been required to raise the remainder of footpath. The rates due in the estate of Mrs M. Perceval had been duly proved and a preferential claim left with the assignee. Five tons of 12in glazed pipes had been received and had been laid by Mr Hopkinson under supervision. He had also carted material and filled up gully on footpath and street opposite his property. Owners of dogs had been waited on with the view of ascertaining what number were likely to be registered, up to date 24 had been registered, The pump at the office had been repaired. The 6in drain opposite Mr Storey’s stables being too small to admit passage of flood water, he suggested a timber culvert with a grate of 3 or 4 bars at upper end.
CROSSINGS, BTC. Mr P Coira drew attention to the danger of broken crossings, and suggested that when the by-laws are reconsidered steps be taken to have a by-law passed making it compulsory for owners of property to have crossings of a secure and permanent nature put down when necessary. Mr W Storey asked if something could not be done in the direction of compelling owners of property to fence in such places where there was a possibility of danger to the public. He instanced a dangerous place between his property and that occupied by Mr Money.—The board after considering the matter were of opinion that in this particular instance they could do nothingACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £BO 6s 8d were passed for paymentADJOURNMENT. Two of the commissioners having urgent business to attend to, it was decided to adjourn the meeting until Friday evening.
