ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
Auckland, Jan. 19. Two charges of double, voting were before the Police Court to-day, but were adjourned. The defendants are James Hunter and Charles Double. A farmer named Blencowe, living near Te Arowha, was riding along a road near that township going home, when his 'horse became restive, and threw him heavily against a telegraph post, smashing his skull, Death was instantaneous. The unfortunate man leaves a wife and family. A gum digger, named Edward Moran or Morant, who has daughters in Auckland, was found dead in an old hut near Murcury Bay. fan. 20. A Maori boy, named Paretini, living at Otatuata, found an oil drum, and filling it with water, corked it tightly and lit a fire underneath. The drum eventually exploded, and a piece of iron struck the boy, cutting off the top of his head. Death was almost instantaneous. Wanganui, Jan. 20. A man named Jupp, a shed man at a wayside station, met with a fatal accident this afternoon, He was in a low-side truck arranging some goods when an engine came into the shed to take the train out, and the jolt of the trucks overbalanced him and he fell out of the waggon on to the ground. One of the wheels went over his body, He was picked up insensible, but shortly regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital. He died this evening from rupture of the abdominal viscera, being conscious to the last. Deceased was a hardworking, trustworthy man, and the Railway Department loses a good servant. A young man aged 20 years named Albert E. Harmer, who was subject to fits, waa drowned in the harbor this morning. At the inquest it was found that deceased met his death from drowning while in a fit. Dunedbt, Jan. 19. Charles Cooper, an elderly man, died at the Lawrence hospital, from injuries received by a log rolling on him while splitting timber. He lay pinned for 24 hours before he was discovered, aud for some time refused to be removed to the hospital. John Morrison, of Morrison and Anderson, plumbers, of this city, died at Waipori through taking an overdose of laudanum.
Christie and Tatam, each with several aliases, ware to day committed for trial for robbery under arms at Kocklands station, Strath-Taieri. Inyebcabgili., Jan. 19.
Thomas Lynch, a miner, was killed yesterday by a fall of earth at Moke Creek, near Queenstown.
