It is stated that the United States Government have made overtures to the Canadian Government for reciprocal trade relations, and that Canada has made, a request t* the English Government to be allowed to carry on negotiations. The Indians who submitted have agreed to give up their arms on General Miles promising that they will be better treated by the doited States Government in future. The rebel fleet are blockading the coast from Iquiqne to Coquimbo, and era trying to induce the army to revolt. The President is accused of committing an unconstitutional assembly at Entrerios. It is reported that Colonel Wiseman has attacked Machonabas’ stronghold, situated in a dense jungle, but without success. A Ipconiotiye driver named Phelan, murdered his paramour, named Heaton, , ha'f severing the head from the tody, and then attempted to commit suicide. Jealousy is supposed to have been the cause of the act. Jan, 18. The police report on the working of Prison Gate Brigade of the Salvation Army contains some curious revelations, it is alleged that the brigade clothes and feeds criminals who at night are engaged in crime. TOE “ BLACK DEATH.” I London, Jan. 15. i Telegrams from St Petersburg state that the disease kaonn as “ black death,” which appeared in Dublin in 1866,> is raging over the country from Snmarcand a| city of Russia, in Central Asia, to the mouth of the River Obi. The disease ia especially severe at Obdorsk, where thousands of people are dying. [ The " B'ack Death ” was a new and incurable disease which broke out iu Dublin in 1866, and caused numerous deaths, many persons of all ranks dying a few hoars after seizure. One of its symptoms was the appearance of purple batches on the skin.]
