POLITICAL
Wellington, Jan. 19. The classification of the Post and Telegraph Officers under the new Act will be gazetted this week. The Parliamentary buildings are being got ready for the influx of members, a number of whom have already marked their seats. It is not intended to alter the seating arrangements of the chamber much, beyond removing one or two benches along the back. Ministers held a long cabinet meetlast night and another this morning, but the Premier positively refused ta allow anything to be made known before to-morrow. It is known, however, that the final arrangements, whatever they may be, are now made and the Council appointments determined on. The latter may be retained secret till Ministerial statement on Friday. It is pretty well known that the question of Sir Harry Atkinson assuming the Speakership in the Upper House is a contingency which is occupying the minds of Ministers, and it seems to bo supposed that a temporary reconstruction may take place to enable the Premier to resign and be appointed to the vacant position.
