SUPPOSED MURDER.
NAriBB. Jan. 14. Captain Preece, R.M., Inspeotor Kieley, and a number of polios, left this morning for Rakamoana station, on the Taupo road, to investigate what appears to be a oase ot murder. Yesterday morning fiederick Mathesflin, the bead sbephered, was seen leading a horse, and some time afterwards he was found at the back of the homestead, with a l»'ge wound on his bead. It was suppossed that his horse had kiaked him. He died without recovering consciousness. Subsequently suspicion was aroused, mainly through the sudden disappearance of Charles Chad wick, one of the station hands. Further investigatitien showed two wounds on separata parts of the head, apparently inflicted by a sharp instrument. There is a dense scrub st the baofc of the house, and it supposed that Chadwiok is there, as the neighbourhood has been scoured without finding any traces of him. An inquest was to be held this afternoon, but the result will not be known in town to-night.
