BOXING-DAY.
TEMUKA. Boxing-Day was ushered ia with a howling nor'-wester, which must hart filed farmers w:tb/gloomy forebodings. | Those <-n plansure intent, however, al- ■ though they doubtless anathematised the > wiod, nhiuh was certainly moat unplea--1 sunt, rejoiced' ia the prospect of a fine day i for the unnoal sports of the Temuka Oa'e- . dorjian Society. The wind moderated as the morning advanced, and »b«3Ut ten ' o'clock the day was glorious, and every* 1 body was astir, ready for what ia now ' considered the e;ent of I be season. A ~> few there were who sought sexe quieter form of amusement, and the Beach was , again welt patronised. The majority, however,' made their way to the Park. The day continued fine, though at tinea ' the heat was very great and the wind high. ! TEMUKA CALEDONIAN rfOCISTF. ! THIRD ANNUAL GATHEHfiTO. » Patron: A. E. G. Rhodeß, Esq., M.H.R. 1 President: A. Each event could be distiuotly seen. In front of the ' pavilion was a small . enclosure, so that ' access was readily available to the seere* 1 tdry's office, and also to the room re- ' served for eonipetitora. At the back of. • f the 'dancing stand were displayed the ' banners of England, Scotland, and Ireland. .' it will be remembered that the two latter w»re presented to th«t Society by Messrs Quinn and CU'k respectively. Mr Clarke i >C ks now agtirj displayed his interest in the Soc e y by giving a handsome St George's Gross fl<g, so that each nationality of Great 1 Britain shall be represented. For a one day's gathering this must now bejeckoßed i the best. The eotriss are increasing, the priza money is larger than that giveo in a , viugie d»y »t «nj o her place, and there is * general 'go' about the »fF->ir that attract! the outside public.
