FIRES.
Waimate, Dec. 24. A two-roomed house belonging to Mr Joseph Maberly and situated immediately behind Mr Boys' drapery establishment, was disaovered to be on fire about 6 o'clock this erening Luckily very little wind waa blowing, but the house, being an old one, wassoon reduced to ashes. The house was not insured and Mr Maberly loses all his tools used in the cabinetmaking business. The cause of the fire is attributed to some boys who were seen shortly before lighting crackers. The fire might hare been extinguished before much damage was done had water been available. Wsxi-iSGTOir, Dee 25. At ten o'clock last night a house situated on Aurora Terrace, occupiei by six young men, was destroyed by fire. The origin is unknown. All the eontents were destroyed. The building was owned by Mrs Clark, and insured in the National office. At 1 o'clock this morning a fire destroyed the "Wellington Bacon Factory (H. Wilson proprietor) nituated'in Cuba street. The building waf owned by a. Lindsay, «nd insured in the South British for £400; the stock in the Standard for £3OO, partially reinsured in the Equitable Wilson estimates his loss at £l5O above the insurance. The drapery stock of Mr C «mith is damaged to the extent of £3OO, but it is insured.
