News retched Merced on November 10th that the body of John Ivatt, one of the oldest and wealthiest residents of this country, bad been found near bis borne, on the Merced River, horribly bruised and mangled. His head had been battered to a jelly. He ate his supper in the farm bouae and had started fur his private residence, which was upon a hill about 100 yards away. The assassin must have done his work just as Ivett stepped on the porch. The murdered man was seventy years of age. His young wife is in San Francisco. Thera is great excitement throughout the neighborhood.
