The Tenouka Koad Board are now giving 2d per dozen for eggs and small birds, which can be delivered at the Temuka Road Board office between noon and 5 p.nu., on Saturdays, and to Messrs Talbot, Fraser and Snell after 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The plun adopted by the road boards of the various districts of giving so much per dozen for small birds' eggs and heads would appear to be answering; its purpose. This year the boys cooi- ! plain that the eggs are not nearly so plentiful, and the amount of pocket money they can obtain is proportionally small. Whether this is due to a substantial decrease in iho number of birda, or is owing to tho season not be ! ng « good o<t> fi breeding, the complaint is one that wi* be hoard with Ht.H»fact'on by formers an" gardenen, whatever the boys may thiok about it, '

A Weather Prophet. Australian contemporary writing on Mr Clement Wragge, the Queenlaod meteorologist says : —" This gentleman has brought the science of meteorology to such perfection that he now time's the arrival of storms and other weather phenomena at different places just as If they were express trains running round the Australian coast under his own sole raaogement and direction. The present series of weather disturbances extending over New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia have been anticipated by him with an exactitude w'jieli could hard); have been surpassed if ha hud the actual ordering of them. Violent storms have been predicted, for instance, in South Australia, and within the specified time Adelaide was visited by hurricanes which have filled the bay with wrecks. Mr Wragge also gave warning that squalls were to be looked out for ail along the intervening between there and Sydney, asd described not only the places it would visit, but the direction of the winds. AH these calculations have been or are still being verified." Mr Wragge was a meteorologist of considerable repute in England, and for a time had charge of the observatory on the top of Ben Nevis, the highest in the United Kingdom, regarding which he contributed some interesting articles to Good Words.
