S.C. HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday. Present—Messrs J. Jackson (chairman), D. M. Roes, W. W. Moore, R. A. Barker, M. Quinn, and Dr Hogg* An apology wai received from Mr Sinclair, of Waimate. The chairman in making his osual statement feelingly referred to the death of Dr Maclntyre. He then briefly reviewed the year’s proceedings. I hey b-gan the year with estimates of £5989 of expenditure, and an estimate of receipts £SOO, making a b dance of £5489 to be provided. During the seven months of the year £3135 bad been expanded, the amount being swelled somewhat by law expenses. The resnlt of the reparations ao far was that they would leave a legaoy of £(0 to their successors.

A resolution of sympathy with Mrs MacTn'r'o was pasted. Letters were read to and from other districts respecting charging for patients.

Mr Barker asked whether tnere were many who though able to p*y did not do ao. The chairman and aecrettry and also Mr Roae said that every care was taken to obtain payment where po*»ib’eOrdioary hospital accounts £156 12a and law coats £SB 18* 4d were passed for payment. Mr MoLaren’a motion to reduce the hospital charges to 3a 6d a day lapsed in his absence, no one taking it up. Mr Barker’s motion to reduce it to 3* a day, or £1 la per week, waa moved, and seconded by Mr Rosa, who, however, asked for an amendment to £1 per week, as this was the popular figure, and he said if it was not no* csrricd he would afterwards try to gel the shilling cat oflf.

Accounts amounting to £260 12« were passed for payment. Tbe steward showed the board a working model of the ventilating windows in nee in tbe Middlesex County Hospital, and the members expressed themselves much pleased with its efficiency, simplicity, and cheapness. At the close of tbe ordinary business, this being the present hoard, Mr Barker moved a hearty vote of thanks to the cinnrman for his able conduct ef the business during the year. He would like to include also Mr Moore, who was retiring. They would miss him very much, as he had been an excellent member, whose advice bad been very valuable.

Dr Hogg and Mi Quinn spoke in support of the motions, and Mr Moore added bis testimony as to the efficiency of tbe chairman.

Tbe motions were carried unanimously, and the chairman having rep'ied tbe masting terminated.
