AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT’S. TIMARU. Messrs Oracle, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight as follows : : i Horses —At our annual sale of exhibited and other horsesj on Thursday, 3lst ult., our entry was large, and included some excellent draught and light horses. We disposed of nearly all the best sorts in bothjjiaeses bn that date, and on the. following,day at Washdyke yards, there was a large attendance of buyers,' when -good quality was again in demand. At both of these sales we placed 47 head at the following rates: —Medium to good draught, £ls to £24 10s; ordm ary, £9 to £18; hackneys up to weight, trom £ls to £22; medium sorts, £6 to £lO. Dog cart horses up to £24 ; one pair buggy ponies, £35 ; one pair do do, £2O. Pbrd&y our entry of draughts was good, but only a few sales were 1 effected.
Sheep —At I'leasant Point, on Monday, the yarding was a small one, as compared with late’ sales there ; but most of The lines forward changed hands. We sold 202 ewes; with lambs at 14s 2d, 21 fat sheep at 'l4si 2d ; at Washdyke yards, 112 4-tdoth* wethers at 16s, 50 ewes at 14s; 1 and at the show grounds, on show day, on account of Mr A, M, Clark, 20 first prize wethers at 245, 10 do do, shorn, at 16s 6d ; and on-account of the N.Z and A. Land Company, 20 'second prize wethers at 20s. , ' Cattle —Fat cattle , are scarce, and all lots to hand have met a good market, equal to, 24a per ,1001 b having been obtained‘for best beef, and this price now rules. There is an inquiry for tbree-year-oid store, steers and well forward yearlings, for both -of ;which good money is: available. :At Pleasant Point and Washdyke : we' have sold 77 head of stores at;fqr yearlings; 12s to 17s 6d ; two-year-old steers, 45s to 50s; dry cows,-25s to .60s j'-and at auction and cattle at above quotation. pjg ß —;All lots' to hand sold at, for weaners, 6s 3d to 8s; pofkers, 16s to 18s. Skins —At bur sale on Wednesday our catalogue smaller than for some time past, owing, no doubt, to the fact of our country friends hating given up their time and attention to show business for the time being. Our sale, however, was a 1 airly good one, and prices were on a level with our last quotations.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Nov. 9. Tallow —Medium mutton, 25s 3d; ditto beef, 9d. The English wheat market is improving The Continental is unchanged, while the American is declining. New Zealand wheat, on passage, 3Gs 3d; off coast, 375. Money is advancing: Three months’ bills are quoted at per cent. Forward business in Australasian wheat is inactive, and foreign arrivals are small. Oft coast cargoes have nut met with ready sale.
