AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
GERALDIKE. Messrs J. Muodell and Co. report sales for the week ended Nov. Ist, 1890, as follows: During the week we have sold at auction and privately several large lines of store sheep at prices most satisfactory 4 t© vendors, caused, no doubt, to a large extent by the showers we have lately been receiving in providing the pastures, and once more establishing confidence, but aB yet we have nothing to dread from shortness of feed in South Canterbury. I At the Geraldine live stock market on Tuesday we yarded 2500 sheep, 89 cattle, and" 25 pige, and sold the whole ot our entry, with the exception of a few small Hues at the following prices:— Sheep—4-tooth wethers, fat, 15s 9d, 16s to 18s 9d; crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 4-tooth shorn, lis 3d; Jo 2-tootb, 10s 8d ; three-quarter-bred boggC? 8 - Ua ? d to 15a; crossbred ewet, fat Bho . rn ' Qs Wj merino wethers, Bs, emit ? at *»™ hoggets, 7s 6d, 10s 6d, to lis 3d;' crossbred ewes with 55 per cent of lambs at foot, lis 6d; merino ewes j with 85 oer cent of lambs at foot, H 3d to 9s 6d. Cattle—Heifers, fat, £4 10a ; cows n profit and springing, £3 to £3 10s ; 2-year-old steers and heifers, £1 5s to
£1 6s 6d; yearling steers and heifers, 17s to £l.
Pigs—Small stores, 6s 6d, Bs, 9s 6d to 10s 6d.
At Washdyke yards on Friday we attended the half-yearly'sale, of horses J at this fixture. There . was a large entry, composed, principally, of. weeds and scrubbers. * The atten.dauee of the public was good, arid wheu by chance a good sort was submitted the auctioneer had no difficulty in effecting a sale at prices considerably in advance ] of owners' reserve. Clearing Sales —On account of Byrne Bayley, Esq., Moana, we held a sale of his draught horses, farming implements, and harness on Thursday. The, sale was,largely attended from nil parts of the district. A clearance of \ every lot was effected at most satisfactory prices, draught horses es-. pecially selling at from £l7 to,to £26 TIMAKD. Messrs William Collins and Co. report a good enquiry for whole and broken fowl wheat and stout danish oats, at their regular weekly.auction on Saturday. No level lines of fowl wheat were on offer. The entries were sold at 6s to 7s per sack. Oats 1 in small lots, 5b 6d per tack, Potatoes have completely collapsed. "We had a difficulty in placing some entries p at 188 per ton, new sacks given in., We held a sale during the day of Japanese goods, which had the effect of drawing; a large audience of connoisseurs. Some of the items were almost given away, but on the whole t"je sale was satisfactory.

The following is the Corn Exchange report (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending Friday, October 31et:— There is no chansja.in the markets to report Stocks of wheat are gradually being reduced ; there ia but little held in the country, and the stores ( in Christchurch and Lyttelton once more present a comparatively empty appearance.. Oats are held much in excess of requirement, a hand-to-mouth enquiry represents all the business. Barley—The season having passed quotations are nominal. Potatoes are being sold at any price, holders accepting whatever is offering, being only too glad to get cost of sacks and bagging. Dairy produos—After some considerable "hanging up " the Harbor Eoard have referred the construction of the cool chambers in Port Lyttelton to the committee who were appointed some time since with in structions to reduce the price of the construction to within £SOOO and call for tenders. This moans that next year the farmers will have storage' accommodation unequalled this side of the line for bis butter, Ac- Quotations are as follow: — Wheat—Tuscan, 3s 5d to 3s 6d ; pearl, 3s 4d ; hunters, 3s 2d to 3s 3d. Oats—Prime milling, Is 7d ; short bright heavy feed, Is 6d; inferior sorts, Is 2d to Is 4d. Barley—Nominally ; 3s to 3s 3d for prime malting; feed, Is 6d to Is Bd. Beans and Peas—2s 4d to 2a 6d. Kyegrass —Machine dressed, 5s 3d ; cocksfoot, 4fd to 4^d. Dairy Produce —Prime butter, 6d to 6|d ; cheese—small loat shape, 4d ; larger sizes, 3d to 3^d. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery, f.0.b., Lyttelion, packs extra. ENGLISH MAB&ETS. Lokdok, Oct 30. Tallow—Best mutton, 27s to 27s 6d ; do beef, 25s 6d to 265. JJ"ew Zealaud mutton, 3|d; New South Wales do, 3id ; lamb, 4|d. New Zealand beef—Hind quarters, 3d: fore quarters, 2£d. Nov. 1. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 103, steady j 3£, 94£, firmer. Three months' bills are quoted at 4* per cent. South Australian wheat, 38s, steady ; Yictorian, 87e 6&, improving; New Zealand long-berried do, 36s 9d, firmer.
