RIFLE SHOOTING.
A friendly nntch between ten civilians and ten members of the Geraldine was fired at the Geraldine range on Thursday afternoon. The weather was bad for shooting, there being a strung bret-Z!, which chopped about to all points of the compaEs between north-west and southwest. The malch commenced short'y after twelve o'clock so ai to allow of the "Volunteers commencing their volley and independent firing at three o'clock. The conditions of the match were 200 and 50C yards, seven shots at each range, Wimbledon targets and scoring. In all these matches the civilians are at a great disadvantage as they have to use the old rifles which have betn discarded by the Volunteers, and are in most instances rusty and battered. The following are the scores : Geraldine Rifles.
The Rifles thus won the match by 5Q points. The return match will be firec 1 in a short time, when the civilians hope, if they cm induce the Volunteers to provide them with better rifles, to turn the tables on them.
