WRECK OF THE NAUTILUS.
Auckland, Oct. 23. The steamer Richmond, from the Islands, brings intelligence of the fate of the missing Chilian brigantine Nautilus, Captain Robert Owens, owned by Caytain V. Mitchili, and consigned to Donald and Bdinborough, Auckland, with pearl shells on board. Sbe left Mangarewa on 25th June last for Huaheine to load oranges for Auckland. On the 26th she sprang a leak which could not be stopped, and it was determined to try to reach Anna for repairs. On the 27th at 2 a.m. she suddenly struck at the island of Ilerehereututi and became a total wreck, having drifted broadside on the reef. Captain Owens, who was below when the vessel struck, having been for many heurs on deck, attributes the loss of the vessel either to the chronometer being out or to a strong current. Everything was lost, including the captain’s clothes. All hands managed to reach the shore safely. Captain Owens and the crew were then seventy-four days ou Heirehereututi, They lived wholly on cocoannts and fish. On September oth the schooner Ina called at tbo Island and took the shipwrecked crew to Anna, and thence another vessel conveyed them to Tahiti.
