Tbs qpartarly'meeting of the Presbytery : pf Timaru was held at Temuka on Tuesday, the, iA X#th inst., with the (additional ..purpose of holding the i triennial visitation of l the congregation ! there There were present —The Rev. ! William White, moderator; the Revs. J. Dickson, A. B. -Todd,. J. MpKee, and W.. Gillies, with Messrs John Outhbert and Samuel'Cain, elders, j The forenhon meeting was mostly taken up in eliciting information regarding i the: state of matters generally in. the j congregation, by means of the questions appointed 1 by the Assembly :td be put on such occasions, to the minister and representatives, of the session and ,committee of* management. Further questions were put by the members of the Presbytery, and after discussion of all the information gained, the folio wing, passed. "That this .Presbytery express its pleasure at the answers given by the minister . of session and cemmittee to the questions put • congratulates the congregation on having its free of debt, and on the generally satisfactory position of church matters ; recommends to the session to have separate,.; districts allocated to the elders for visitation; urges upon the members a deeper interest in, and liberality/ to, the iyprk of missions,) i,Homel and Foreign, and prays that a rich ■ and abundant blessing may be vouchsafed by the great tjie Chuiich on the ministry, of the Lord in this district.” The proposals sent down from the Assembly re New Hebrides Mission synod were discussed and some amendments thereto agfeed upon. At the pfternoon meeting a lengthened discussion took place upon the (proposed schemes for providing and i training further agents for supply 1 of spiritual wants of outlying districts, lit was proposed by Mr McKee, and seconded by Mr Dickson—” That this : Presbytery having considered the report of the Committee appointed by the Assembly to. consider by what means ordinances might be more effectively supplied to the outlying districts, disapproves of the new scheme*, and views the present system as sufficient.” As an it was proposed by My Lillies, and seconded bv M' u thbert—" That this r **uytery* having considered the (schemes proposed by the committee (for that purpose by last assembly, ftnds I that in the present circumstances ot I the Church in this" colony, with its I many sparsely populated ditiiets, and the dimculty of obtaining* agents to (occupy these, the schemes now;snhimitted are likely to supply a great I present want , and to prepare a ministry well-trained in Biblical knowledge and i practical experience, therefore gives ithese schemes its hearty support, suggesting that provision be made m | connection therewith for further tutorial supervision of studies, by (members of presbyteries withip whose bounds the agents may be labouring. (A vote being taken there voted for the •motion 3, for the*amendment 2. The (motion was declared carried accordingly, hut the moderator requested to (have it recorded that his support would |he in favour pf the amendment.
