GERALDINE COUNTY ANGLERS' SOCIETY.

The annual general meeting of the members of the Geraldine County Anglers’ Society was held at the Crown Hotel, Temuka, on Monday evening. There was only a small attendance. Mr M. Quinn was voted to the chair. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The acting secretary, Mr J. W. Yelvin, read the annual report and balanoe-sheet as follows : “To the President and Members of the Geraldine County Anglers’ Society. •* Gentlemen, —In presenting the report of the proceedings of your society for the past year year committee have to express their sensei of the loss the society sustained through their late secretary, Mr ' J. L. Flint, leaving the district. Under his energetic management the society advanced with rapid strides, and was at tbo zenith of its success when he vu called to fulfil duties in another sphere. His place has bean temporarily filled by Mr J. W. Yelvin. During the past year only one competition wae held, and at this the cups presented by Mr A. E. U. Rhodes, M.H.K., and Mr Robert Heaton Rhodes were presented, the first, for the largeit basket with the fly, being won by Mr W. Bmley, the other, tor the heaviest basket with any legal bait, was awarded to Mr A. Brck. It was intended to have held another competition, but the absence of the secretary and the condition of the rivers induced your committee to postpone,the event. The annual fish dinner wae held at the Wotseiey Hotel, Win* cheater, bat it was very poorly attended. It is to be hoped that this annual fixture will hot be allowed to lapse, as it has a tendency to promote harmony aud good fellowship among brethren of the craft. By referring to the balance-sheet it will be seen that the total receipts for the year, including a. balance in band of Is 4d, amount to £l2 3s 4d. Of this amount £8 15a is derivable from’subsoriptions and £1 8a from eompstitors; £l. was received from Mr Hawkins from sale of tickets for annual dinner, end Mr Gill, of Victoria, who expressed himself highly pleased with the sport be enjoyed hare, gave a dona* tioa to the society of one guinea,. After payment of all liabilities there will remain to the credit of the society a balance of 7,d| with assets to the value ef 30s for outstanding subscriptions. We would remind members that it is essential that they do their utmost to make the society a continued success by inducing all sportsmen to join. The society is new in the enviable position ef possessing most handsome cups open for competition etch year, and with a little energy sod continued good and sportsmanlike feeling each competition should be keener than its predecessor. In conclusion your committee desire moat heartily to thank Messrs A.K. G. end R. H. Rhodes for their donations, and also, for the interest taken in the society. They also desire to express tbeir regret for Mr Flint’s absence, but feel .assured that , he will in his new home continue to feel an interest in the affairs of the society.” NEW MEMBER*. Messrs J. T. M . Hayhurst and G. H. Patrick were elected members of the soeiety. a ELECTION OE OTPICEBS. Mr A. M. Clark was unanimously elected president of the society.. Messrs M. Quinn and W. DeSonzy were elected vice-presidents of the society, Mr J . W. Yelvin was elected secretary and treasurer. The following were elected a committee Messrs Hawkins (Geraldine), Findlay, P. Coira, G. Mason, A. Hope, N. 0. Nicholas, and W. G. Aspinall. TOTES or THANKS, On the motion of Mr Yelvin, seconded by Mr Gaze, a vote of thanks was accorded to Mr K. F. Gray, une of their late vice-presidents, and regret was expressed at bis departure from the district. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officers, and on the motion of Mr Gaze, seconded by Mr Nicholas, it was resolved that the secretary convey to Mr J. L. Flint, their late honorary secretary, their regret at his departure from the district, and tbeir thanks for and appreciation of his services during his term of office. A vote of thanks was also passed to. all riparian owners. SUGGESTIONS. It was suggested that there be only one competition in the ensuing Several members spoke of the advisability of making more stringent regulations for the ensuing competitions and suggestions were made thereon.
