Repudiation. — A meeting of natives of the district round Whatatuhu, Hawke's Bay, was hold on Tuesday for the purpose of entering a vigorous protest against the aspersions cast by the counsel for tbo deI fence in the recent Streeter murder cose, in suggesting that Maoris might have committed (he deed. They considered ftat there was not the slightest ground for raising any suspicions against the natives ; that there was no authority for the statement that Streeter had shot Maori dogs and that ill feeling was engendered in consequence. There wns a great crowd of natives present, many speakers, and the proceedings lasted eight hours. A letter signed by 36 chiefs will be forwarded to the Minister of Justice protesting against the statements made.
