Mr K. R. Guinness (for the Nevr.Zea-; land Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for thaweVli ending September l3lb ; The labor troubles, and the uni-: fortunate fact that the freezing worlds both north and south of us at this time of the year should have to suspend operations, has caused a depressing effect on the stock market, and in our opinion it is very trying for graziers, ’their turnips being finished and the grass not sufficiently forward to keep sheep going. The result is that they must be saerificeid to the tune of 2s to 3s per head, or held until after shearing. The above has not had the same: effect on beef market, which is very bare, anjl : shows an upward tendency. Washdyke Yards numbers brought forward of both cattle and sheep, and very little business transacted. We sold 109 prime crossbreds at 16s 2d. Pleasant Point—A large entry cJf, sheep came to hand, and an averageone of cattle. We sold half bred ewes in lamb at 12s lOd, crossbred hoggets at lls lid, merino ewes in lamb at 6s 7d, crossbred hoggets at 12s, halfbred hoggets at 13s, old halfbred ewes in lamb at 6s 7d. Geraldine Yards—A full entry of sheep came forward, made up principally of hoggets and old crossbred ewes in lamb. We sold for Mr J. M. Barker prime fat crossbreds at 16s 4d, and for the same owner fat ewes 14s 5d ; for other clients crossbred ewes in lamb from 10s to 10s 6d.

Temuka Tards—On Friday, 12th inst., we held our first sale at this fixture, when there was a large entry of sheep, and a good attendance of buyers. Although the prices showed a drop on rales ruling a few weeks ago a good clearance was effected. We sold fat crossbred ewes at 12a and cull hoggets at 9s sd. Cattle : Not a large number came forward. We sold 2-year-olds (small) at 35s and yearlings aflss. We anticipate a good demand; for store cattle during the next few. weeks, and, as this is. essentially,-a? cattle district, we expect a full entry at the next few sales.. , Sheepskins and Wool—On Wednesday at our usual fortnight sale there was a fair attendance of" the, trade, and prices for some classes of skins were 3d to 6d down. Wool in bags from 3|d to 6|d per lb. Fat —All on hand cleared at, late quotations. Hides —The market remains inactive. We have sold a large number at late prices.
