Replying to a deputation from the; Canadian Trades Congress, Sir. J, McDonald, the Premier, said the Government would refuse to legislate in the, direction of excluding Chinese from; Canada, on the ground that to do so would embarass England. The Canadian Trades Congress has. carried reeolvtions in favor of an elective, governor-g' nerali.

The federation re6olutions were amended to provide that the delegates should be elected by ballot, and then carried by 97 to 10. Sir H. Parkes and Messrs McMillan, Dibbs, ani J. Abbot, were elected delegates, Sir 4. Parkes was toa ill to make a speech in reply. Newcastle, Sppl. 10. Sailed—Bailey, for Welling'on, with 2000 tons coal.
