SALVATION ARMY, GERALDINE

The monster tea meeting in connection with the anniversary celebrations of the Geraldine corps of the Salvation Army took place in the Volunteer Hall on Monday evening, and was a signal success. Salvationists, it is admitted, are noted for the fervour they throw into any undertaking they may chance to have on hand, and the zeal with which officers and soldiers set about getting up this big birthday party was enough almost to command success. The room was profusely decorated with flags, ever-, greens, and flowers. Five large tables had been prepared, and were loaded with good things and decorated with flowers. They were presided over by Mesdames Major, Herdman, E. Prout-j ing, Ohesterman, Fly, Margate, G. Fronting, Stringer, and Benbow* assisted by Misses Fenn.Dean, Payne] and Q-aiger. The tables were twice well filled. While the tea was in progress Major Veal and Captain Rattray (violin), Captain Duggan (piano), and Mrs Duggan (tambourine) played; a number of lively selections in aj manner that put everyody in good, spirits, and more than one person was heard to remark that the Salvationists knew how to enjoy themselves. After tea the soldiers, headed by the band, went for a march. At the after meeting there was a very large audience. about 500 persons being in the hall. Eighty soldiers were upon the platform. A number of Salvationist songs were sung and others played by the band. The members of the band) also received copies of the articles of agreement they had signed when join ; ing the band. Addresses were delivered by Colonel Taylor, Major Veal, CS, Captains Rattray and Duggan and others. A rery pleasant reunion terminated shortly after ten O’clOCk.
