CHRISTOHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

The following is the Corn Exchange report (per N. P. Mayers, Secretary), for the week ending Friday, August 29th.,:--Trade is entirely paralysed by the! ,strike on tbe intercolonial steamers,! and prices are purely nominal. The! freight question absorbs universal! attention of those in the trade, and' even when ordinary relations are agaiu restored there wiil-prdbably be such a 1 glut, in the Australian market that; prices 'may I no t recoverfor some time.; The only cereal that has not suffered proportionately is wheat, and this is ' owing to the strike not having interfered with homeward-bound vessels, ; sales of which have been made at prices quoted. Last week's quotations' are repeated (except as to wheat and ; potataes)j> as under, the circumstances' it is impossible to give more reliable information, and even the figures given are only nominal. Our quotations for the week are as follow: \

Wheat—Tuscan, 3s sd, to 3s 6d;.; nearl, 3s 3d ,to, 3s 4d,; hunters, 3s 2d to 3s 3d;, Oats —Milling, Is 7d ; short.heavy feed, Is sdto ls6d; long and inferior, Is 3d to Is 4d.

DUNBDIN STOCK MARKETS. . At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—Only 145 head yarded ; very few ; prime. A slight improvement in prices for best may be quoted. Half, and fat cattle were dull of sale >at quotations. Best bullocks brought from £9 to £ll 7s 6d; .ordinary, £7 to £8 10a ; light, £4 to £6 10a; best cows. £6 to £8; ordinary, £4 10s to £5 3.05; light and inferior, £l 10s to £3 10s.
