GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present—Messrs W. 8. Maslin (chairman), A. Sherratt, J. Williams, A- White, N. Dunlop, and J. Mundell.
COEEBSPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and. dealt with as follows: — From Mr L. "Newport with regard to the price asked by the board’s solicitor for preparing the leases of the reserves let by the board.—The oKffirwmTi reminded the members of the Agreement made by Mr Mundell and himself with the solicitor for doing the work, and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr Mundell to arrange. An application was received from the Geraldine Fibre Co., asking to be allowed to use the water from the race now running to waste on pt. sections Hos. 8904 and 8242.—1 t was decided to allow the company to use such water, the board taking no reeponsibility whatever as to supply. From Mr J. Kelly, Survey Office, Christchurch, forwarding the board’s map, pointing put that about double the work calculated upon had required to be done, and asking the board if ; they could see their way clear to ;. grant him a small bonus in addition to his contract price.—Members were agreed that the map was a splendid piece- of workmanship, and it was decided to return it to Mr Kelly and . have the board’s reserves marked in \ blue and the map varnished, also to g?ant him a small bonus: ! ■ ■ ■ oteeseee's eepoet.
The overseer’s report was read and
considered. It was decided to obtain 100 ft of Bin pipes from Mr Pearpbint at the price quoted. The overseer was instructed to obtain requisites, for the town lamps. / -DEPUTATION. A deputation consisting of Messrs J. Pye, M. Burke, and T. Chapman, waited on the board and asked that a street might be repaired, and, if possible, the street widened in places. It was decided that the works committee, with the overseer, should inspect the street the next morning at 10 o’clock, and arrange for the work required being carried out. tendees. ’ Tenders for forming Wilson street end making a footpath on the east side were.opened and.dealt,with as follows: —J. Beckley, £23 10s; G, Ward, £l9 10s; T- Corkery, £lB 18s ; Jonas Eifield, £l6 (accepted). ' ■ ' ■ ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £6llßa lOd were passed for payment, and the meeting. terminated. BOASD OF HEALTH. A meeting of the Local Board of Health was then held. Letters were received from the Eev. Ak B. Todd and Mr J. Cunningham complaining of a nuisance caused on their premises by sewage running from a drain across Wilson street. After consideration it was decided thot the works committee should inspect the drain and report upon it.
