From the Geraldine Road Board, 1 asking this board to sanction shingle f repairs to boundary road. —Agreed to. , From Mr W. Philp requesting that i the road in front of his residence at 1 Winchester be repaired.—The work to i be done. s From Mr J. E. Ackroyd, asking 1 that the road leading to his farm might be shingled. — Resolved that a 1 sum not exceeding £lO be spent on ■ the road. t From Mr F. W. Badham, stating i that the poisoned wheat obtained from the board appeared to agree very well E with the constitutions of the Bulmer i small birds, and requesting that the board before selling any more of such ' rubbish have the same analysed with the view of prosecuting the sellers.— Mr Fraser said that the wheat he had I used had proved most effective in destroying birds. He considered it i very good of its kind.—Mr Woodhead corroborated M r Fraser’s remarks. I He bad used the poisoned wheat with \ good effect.' —Received. E From the Survey Officej stating i that plan of Native Reserve 881 had j not yet been handed in, and that the tracing requested would be forwarded j as soon as possible. I From the Property Tax Department, , authorising an insertion on the roll. [ From the same, notifying that a i voucher had been forwarded for subi sidy due to the board amounting to £176 3s 2d. THE POUND. The overseer stated that the late , pound keeper bad left the district, and that he bad temporarily engaged Mr , Lawson to fill his place Mr Lawson being in attendance was i called in. He offered to lease the pound from the llth of August at the ; rate of £2O per annum.—After coni’ sideration the offer was accepted. PERSONAL APPLICATIONS. Mr Mundell waited upon the board in support of his application for repairs near his saleyards. He asked that the work might be done without delay.—The resolution already arrived at by the board was intimated to him. A native waited upon the board and stated that the natives were forming a road through the Maori Kaik, and asked the assistance of the board in carrying out the work.—The road being a private one the board ; could not entertain the request. Application for pipes was also made to connect with the main south road, —The board agreed to grant the necessary pipes, the overseer to attend to the matter. Mr Bissett applied to have the road through Stewart’s farm repaired.— The overseer to attend. Mr Fraser drew attention to the bad state of Kirk’s road,—Resolved that the overseer report next board day. Mr Woodhead drew attention to the condition of White’s road. —The overseer to report, otebseeb’s eepobt. The overseer’s report was Tead and dealt with as follows ; ; “ To the chairman, “Sir,—l have the honor to report for the past month as follows ;—Tend era have been invited for comract No, 24, forming roai near Smithfield, contract No. 25, making and improving BangitaU fords, and contract No. 26, carting shingle for repairs, 1 have invited tenders for the latter work, as some of the roads are cutting up, apd I consider it would not ha advisable to defer the work of repairing until next month. X have not invited tenders for claying the Canal Reserve
road, as it is not now in a fit state to ba
carted over. During the mouth I have put a floor in the badge over the Rang:* tit a creek, n culvert has been put in on the boundary road, and sundry work done to-ford.i, etc. Contract No. 23, cleaning drain, Clyde’s road, is near completion. Contract No. 21, forming part of Main South Road, is beiog proceeded with. Contract No. 22, o'em'Dg drain, Upper Swamp road, is completed. The contractor for this work has, by mistake, cleaned about 20 chains more of this dram than wae specified. Be Langridge’s road : For shoot 20 chains from its junction with the Waitohi road this road is in a very bad state, and requires ehirgling an re-forming'in some places. For its whole length the road is bad, but at present tns is the case with all unsbiogled roads in the district over wh’ch there has been any traffic during the last two months, tor the 20 chains referred to about 35© yards of shingle would be required, and the cost, with re-forming, would be about £ . — I have, etc., “F. Aecheb. It was resolved that tenders be invited for shingling and repairs to Langridge’s road, tendbes. The following tenders were received _ , , Contract No. 24— Forming road at Smithfield: P. O’Hara, £7 17s 6d, (accepted.) - - Contract. No. 25—Making and improving fords at Bangitata; M, Sheehan, £lO (accepted.) Contract No. 26—Carting shingle for repairs: W. Hopkinson, It per yard for first half mile and 4d extra for each subsequent half mile, (accepted.) The meeting then terminated.
