Dentistry.—Mr T. G. Rowley, surgeon dentist, visits Geraldibe to-morrow. Labor Union.—At the meeting to form.a Shearers' and Laborers' Union last night in Teinnka the Oddfellows' Hull was crowded to excess and large numbers joined. A report will appear in our next issue.
Ghbaldine Stock Sale.—Tbe fortnightly s-de of stock at Geraldine takes place tc-tnorrow. Numerous entries are ndvertised by Messrs J. Mundell &C<>., Messrs H. B. Webster & Co., and Mr E. R. Guinness and Mr A. E. Cox. Messrs J. Mundell & Co. will also sell, at 3 o'lock, some valuable fret-hold property. Mr W. S.Maslin will also soil some frethold property. Social Gathering.— a social gathering in connection with the Wesleyan Ladies Guild will be held in the Old Cnurch, ■nn Thursday evening next at half-pit>t 7 o'clock, members of the gui'd being admitted free and non-members on paj•meiit of 6d each. During the evening Miere wi'l be music and singing, and refreshments will be provided. Altogether cb« social should be very auioyable. CUSTOMS.—The Customs raturns for thf past monthshow a total of £127,381 lis 6 1, Auckland contributing £34;845 9s lid, Wellington £25,893 6s 6», Ohris'churc!) £21,765 J9s 4d, Duutdin £35.429 17<» 7d. The total for the corresponding month of 1889 was £126,015 15s 2d. The total beer duly collected last mouth was £380114 Id. For the corresponding month last year the total was £3803 Ui 9d. Social —A social vj.s held at the Hilton Hotel on Sautrday evening to bid farewell io Miss O'Conmll, on hsr leaving for Wellington. An excellent spread was prepared by Host Homes, who did all in his power to make the gathering a success. Songs were sung by Messrs Crow, Gayson, Connolly, and Carman. Dancing whs indulged in during the evening, and Mr T. Connolly, j«n., acted as M.C. Excellent, music was provided by Messrs Meredith and Henley, and the proceedings broke up at a late hour, all having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. ' Temperance Address.—lt will be seen by an announcement elsewhere, that Mr 1". W. Glover, the renowned temperance advocate, will conduct a meeting in the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, on Wednesday evening, when the claims of total abstinence will be urged.',,'and other matters connected with the temperance cause detlt with. Mi- Glover is well known as a staunch advocate of total abstinence and determined opponent to the driuk traffic in every form. As the admission is free, with a collection to defray expenses, there should be a crowded house.

Primititk Methodist Ohpkch, Geralds. —The Rev. Mr Woollass, of Tiraaru, conduoted the annual missionary services of this Church at Geraldine on riunday hat, both morning and evening. The weather being so extremely wet, there was a very sma 1 attendance at either service. Those who did brave the elements, however, were rewarded by earnest and forcible sermons, in which the rev. gentleman pointed out the duty and privilege of Christians fcj aid such work, and at the same tim3> appealed to his hearers for help to carry the gospel »o heathen lands. He also announced that a missionary meatin.', at which several gentlemen would speuk, would be held in the church this evening at 7.30 o'clock. .
Religious Education.—At a meeting held in Wellington on behalf of the Church of England m support of Mr Pyke's Private Schools Bi 1, the chairman, Mr Rous Marten, explained that there w»s no intention of attacking or injuring the system of sta*.e education, but the desire was to provide an element of religious instruction, and to relieve the present financial strain, A motion was curied that the Primate be asked to petition Parliament in favour of the Bill, and subaequent'y a commiltea waiied on the Primate, who expresaed his entire concurrence with the views of the deputation, nnd promised to petition Parliament us desired. He mentioned that when giving evideoce before a Parliamentary Committee some years ago he warned them that sooner or inter the Church would organise in this direction, and he thought the time had now cotnp.
