Mr Gladstone’s attitude on the Heligoland question is reported to have annoyed his followers, and to be destroying the opposition to the Bill, which passed its second reading by 206 to 6J. It is staled that the Queen urged that leniency should be shown to tbe Guards Colonel Maitland, whose conduct drove them to mutiny, has resigned, v> July 26. Her Majesty the Queen has given her assent to the Western Australia Enabling Bill. The Earl of Jersey succeeds Lord Carrington as Governor of .New South Wales. The decision of the Prince of Wales that next to himself Cardinal Manning; takes precedence on the Commission to investigate the, condition of the work|ngi Masses has provoked a good deal of comment. In the Divorce Court to-day, in the’ proceedings instituted by Viscount Dunlo for divorce from his wife, Mr Marmaduke Wood, a friend of petitioner, deposed that he, Lord Allert and Viscount Dunlo tossed who should; have Belle Bilton, the respondent, Viscount Dunlo won. It is predicted that Viscount Dunlo will not secure a divorce as adultery has not bean proved except by inference, Tbe case is adjourned until Monday.
