MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
i The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Siß.ee, Peel Forest, on the 18th inst, here were present Messrs C. G. 'ripp, G. J. Dennistoun, and R.-Thew. j The chairman not being present Mr G, G. Tripp was voted to the chair.
| CORRESPONDENCE. 1 The following correspondence was read and dealt with : I From the Manager Mount Peel Station, asking whether the board would sell the timber on the unformed rqad between sections 1972 and 3307 in Peel Forest, also asking the board to improve a few chains of the main road on north side of the Lynn river, j— The overseer was directed to go over the road, value the timber thereon, and report at next meeting of the board, and it was decided that the improvement of the road north of the Lynn river bed one. | From Mr W. Postlethwaite asking;: that the name of Mr A. H. Pestlefhwaite be placed on the roll for Mr H. Ford’s property in the Orari Gorge., I—The alteration was done accordingly. | From the Geraldine County Council acknowledging the receipt of petition re keeping the Orari Traffic bridge in repair, and stating that the council had deferred the consideration of the matter until the result of the lawsuit re Pareora Bridge was known. 1 From the Mackenzie County Council in reference to the work done in improving the channel of the Opihi river at the Avondale footbridge, and intimating that in future the board would be consulted before any work being done. \ From the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council requesting the board in accepting tenders to take into consideration whether the amount of tender will allow the payment of a fair irate of wages to the workmen. —The board was of opinion that it was a 'matter for the contractor to consider 'whether the amount of his tender would admit of his paying a fair rate iof wages, From the Commissioner of Property Tax forwarding form of declaration to entitle the board to receive subsidies on rates collected for the year 1889-90, Sunder the provisions of the “Local ! Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885, and “Appropriation Act 1889.” From the Geraldine County Council enclosing a copy of Special Order .passed at the last meeting of the council in reference to collecting Timaru Harbor Board rate.—Before undertaking the the collection of the rate the board wished to be informed i whether in cases where legal proceedings had to be taken for the recovery of rates would the board have to pay all expenses. I From the Controller and AuditorGeneral, returning the balance sheet of the board’s accounts for the past year certified as correct. overseer's report. The overseer’s report was read, and the following resolutions passed in reference thereto: —Re Mr W. E. Barker’s application for permission to erect gates across the road leading to his house.—Permission was granted , upon the usual conditions. Re Tripp’s road it was decided to call tenders for shingling it at the September meeting. . Proposed by Mr Dennistoun seconded by Mr Thew, and carried— , “ That it is the intention of the board ; at its next meeting to make a general , rate of one half-penny in the £, on all . the rateable property in the district for the year ending 31st March 1891, to be made payable in one sum on the Ist day of October next.”
The clerk was directed to write to the Chief Surveyor requesting that a road be laid off and surveyed in continuation of the road passing between sections 26256 and 25802 to join the road in the Orari riverbed, also to forward the map of the district to the survey office to have it plotted up. ACCOUNTS, Accounts to the amount of £4610 a were passed for payment. The board then adjourned.
