The Canterbury Laud Board met .on Thursday, July 3; present— Mesirs J. H. Baker (chairman), D. M’Millan, and W. Kitson. The principal business was te consider the applications for Crown lands applied far on June 24, which resulted as follows: /: Cash -Sapes. —Section 36029, ’ 82 acres, on Waihi river, to Emily Barker; section. 36030, 65 acres, to Emily Barker; section 36031, 13 acres, Waihi, to James Fergusson ; section 36072, 88 acres, Waitohi Hills, to Jane Dawe; section 36246, 210 acres in the Kakahu Yalley, to W. S. Maslin; section 36095, 1560 .acres on, the Waitohi Hills to.Launcelot Walker* section 36105, 630 acres on the Waitohi Hills, to C. F. Haider; section 36073, 40 acres on the Waitobi-Hills, to W. A. The Board also granted section 35932, 24 acres 28 perches, at Orari, to James Proud foot; and section 5 of reserve 2332, at View Hill, 50 acres, to David George Todd, on village" homestead special settlement lease. , * .SALE OF PASTORAL LEASE& Mr J.: H. Baker, Commissioner of -Crown- Lands, < conducted a *sale of pastoral leases in the Assembly Booms,. Umaru, on Friday, submitting (1) in .eleven lots, ah Education Reserve on the Hafeateramea, the total being 3764 ■ acres; (2). eight small gracing runs in the same locality, the total area being* 20,600 acres; and (8) portions ofß Station Peak and Waunate runs, 32,050 acres, in four lots, for seven and a-half months only. . . The Education Reserve, an endow* ment of Canterbury College', was first disposed of. The leases are ; fof years, but the land issub* ject to purchase at any time at any >time at £2 per acre. The following are the lots and names ofbuyers:—

Before proceeding with the sale of leases of the small grazing runs (twenty-one year’s term) —the first sale of this kind in' Canterbury—Mjt Baker explained some of the statutory provisions, especially thdse bearing upon the prevention of '-‘ dummying,” stating that : the Land Board would take every care to see those provisions carried out, and concluding with the advice that anyone who thought of taking up one of these : runs without intending to occupy it for his hovy benefit had better let it alone, :

Parts of Waimate station, 7250 acres, rent £160; and of Station Peak, 24,800 acres, £4BO, for the term, months, were sold at the upsets to the present occupiers.
