SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of this committee was held on Wednesday evening, July 9th. Present—Messrs E H. Pearpoint (chairman), J. Eiordan. J. W. Fye, CJ. Sherratt, and J. Williams. chairman's statement. The chairman reported that the credit of account, as per bank book on the table, was £l6 12s 3d ; also that at tba last meeting of the board a resolution had been carried raising the status of the school, and advising that he should write as chairman to the various members of Parliament' asking them to endeavor to carry the matter through. This was agreed to. The chairman also mentioned that he had communicated with the board for a grant of £2 towards cost of porch,, and asking that the fencing andi planting should be at once proceeded; with, The fermer request was re-i fused, and the latter was adjourned; for an estimate of cost to be obtained. inspector's bepobt. Messrs Pye and Mashn were appinted visitors. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £5 5s 6d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was held on Thursday evening, there being present Messrs Pearpoint, Sherratt, Pye,: Williams, White, Maslin, and Riordan. The chairman informed the members that the meeting had been called to make arrangements for some kind of entertainment to celebrate the opening of the new school,, and also to consider the fencing and planting the new school grouuds and other matters relating to furnishing. , After a long discussion it was unauimoualy resolved to advise the Board of Education to repair the present fence, and to plant a live fence of macrocarpa trees; to place one largo entrance gate on the Cemetery Boad and two simple wicket-gates at at two corners of the section, and to dig a ditch round one side. Also to procure a pump, new bell, and the necessary furniture, and to arrange for the shingling of the ground around the building. The head master's report re various items was read and considered, and it was resolved that he be informed that all the necessary details in furnishing the school and putting the ground in order will have the due consideration ' and attention of the committee; further, that the committee cannot entertain the application for cropping any part of the land, and that as soon *• as the school is completed no horses or cattle will be allowed to graze I within the school grounds. In reference to an entertainment to celebrate the opening of the new school, it was resolved that the comjmittee form itself into a concert committee, and meet on Monday, 21st, and arrange what class of entertainment sfamll be given, four to form a quorum. Messrs White, Sherratt, and the chairman were appointed a sub-com-mittee to draw up a report to the board as to fencing, etc. It was further decided that application be made to the Town Board -to repair and shingle the road running past Heney's and leading to the new school, and cut and grub the gorse on both sides of the school frontage. The meeting then terminated.
