CHRISTOHUBCH CORN EXCHANGE
The following: is the Corn Exchange report (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending Friday, July 18th : Business in wheat has been somewhat restricted, owing in part to the breakage of the cable, and as at last advices the English market was somewhat unsettled the interruption has occurred at an unfortunate moment. Prices have hardened, and holders decline rates lately offering, pending fresh quotations from London. Oats show no improvement in values, and sales are with difficulty effected, unless at prices that are disheartening to growers. Buyers, however, see no inducement to operate to any extent. Barley: A good inquiry for prime malting exists, but medium and feed qualities, in sympathy with oats, are almost neglected. Beans are taken to fill up space in homeward bound vessels 8t quotations, the l<»cal demand being almost nil Peas: Blue Prussians are in good demand, There is but little inquiry for other descriptions. Garden varieties are offering more freely, with a good demand Eyegrass: Farmers this season wil have the opportunity of supplying their wants either from imported seed or local Btock, large parcels of English grown have been recently landed. Cocksfoot: A fair business in this line has come under our notice, heavy bright seed being most in fayor. Potatoes: Heavy shipments still continue to be made; to Sydney. If in sacks and able to be seat down to steamers for immediate shipment a few shillings per ton above quotations can be obtained to fill orders. Dairy Produce: No alteration in prices can be noted. The following are our quotations for the week: — Wheat—Tuscan, 3s 2d; pearl, 3s j hunters, 2s lOd to 2s lid; chick wheat, whole, 2s 7d; broken, 2s 2d to 2s 6d. Oats—Milling, Is 7d; short heavy feed, Is 6d; long and inferior, Is 3d to Is 4d. B ar l e y__p r i m e malting 3s; medium, 2s 3d to 2s 6d; feed, is 6d to Is Bd.
Beans, 2s 6d. Peas—Hand-threshed Prussians, 3s; feed, 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Eyegrass—Machine-dressed, 4s 9d to ss. Cocksfoot: Bright heavy seed, 4d to 4id; light and discolored, 2|d to 3£d. Potatoes Derwents. 42s 6d at country stations, sacks extra. The above quotations are those paid to farmers for delivery, f.0.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra, potatoes excepted.

Messrs Matson and 00. report: — Fat Cattle—Small entry. Beef Bold at from 20a to 23s per 1001 b. Steers sold up to £lO 2s 6d; cowb, £7 10s; heifers, £7. Store cattle sold at an advance of 10s to 15s per head. Dairy cows sold at £3 10s to £6 10s. Pat Sheep—Best crossbred wethers, 19s to 235; maiden ewes, 18s 6d to 21s 6d; crossbred ewes, 14s to 18s: Store Sheep—Fair entry. Crossbred ewes in lamb, 9s to 12s 3d; crossbred maiden ewes and wethers, lis to 14s. Store Lambs—7s to 9s 6d. Pigs—Competition for bacon sorts brisk, with prices equal to last week. Prices varied according te quality trom 14a to £2 10s. Horßes —Draught horses, £ls to £2l; hacks and harness horses, £8 to £l6.

The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday:— Wheat—Locally there is not much doing with millers, but ihere is some inquiry for first-class shipping parcels from northern ports only. Best tuscan, 8s 3d to 3s sd; velvets, straw, and velvet ear, 3s to 3s 2dj wheat, for second-class flour, 2s 8d to 2s lid. Fowls' wheat: Good whole scarce at 2s 6d to 2s Bd.j broken and inferior, 2s 2d to 2s 4d. Barley ISo demand. Maltsters, 2s 6d to 2s lOd; milling, 2s 8d to to 2s 5d ; feed, Is 8d to 2s. Oats have a little enquiry for coastal orders. Best milling, Is 4d to Is 5d ; bright plump feed. Is 3d to Is 4d;. sepond quality and off-color, Is to Is 2d. Linseed—£ls to £l6. Onions—£7 10s te £B.
Hops—9d. Elour—Timaru roller, £9 ss; 50'e, £ltt ;' v Oaniaru, town and southern, £8 ss; 50'b, £8 10s. Oatmeal—£B 10s in bulk and 25's. Bran—£3 per ton. Sharps —£4 per ton. Potatoes —Derwents, £3 to £3 5s ; seed kidneys, £2 10s to £4. Pigs—2£d to 3d, market glutted hams, 7d to 8d ; flitches and rollß, s|d to 6d.
Chaff —Good heavy cleaß, £2 5s to £2 7s 6d ; other sorts, 35s to £2. Turnips—lss. Carrots—3os. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 30s to 355. Hay—Oaten, £2 10s; clover and ryegrass, £3 ss. Butter —Salt, prime quality, 7d to 7|d j; second : quality not saleable. Eggs—Again scarcer. Honey—4fd to sd.
