Retrenchment. —The following resolution has been passed by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce; ‘That the thanks, of the chamber be accorded to the Auckland members for their efforts to reduce the public estimates, aud that this chamber urge them to continue their agitation to lessen expenditure.’ The chairman urged that what was wanted was large and substantial reduction of the education vote, and lessening of taxation reducing or. abolishing the property tax.
