AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Arowhenoa Town Board was held last night. Present —MesTB Lee (chairman), Ashwell, Frew, Brown and Va'lender. COBBESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the secretary Canterbury Trades and Labor Council, conveyiog copy of a resolution passed by the above council, which respectfully requested public bodies in accepting tenders to take into consideration whether the amount of tender will allow the payment by the tenderer of a fair rate of wages to the workmeD.—Received. From the Bank of New Zealand, Tiniaru, acknowledging receipt of £3 14 3d, for credit of the Hospital aod Charitable Aid Board. From the Geraldioe County Council, covering copy of a special order delegating to the several bodies the collecting ot the harbor rate, and offering a commission of 2J per cent, for doing so, such commission to include all disbursements and services. •- The position of the board in the matter was discussed, aod i was revolved that the request be complied *-ith, the clerk to communicate with the Geraldine County Council upon the matter. From the Property Tax Commissioner, enclosing form to be filled in by the chairmaD to enable the board to receive subsidy under the Local Bodies Powers and Finance Act. otebseer's BEPOBT. The overseer's report was read as follows :■— To the Chairman and Commissioners Arowhenua Town Board. Gentlemen, —Since last meeting one man has been employed in breaking stones on north town belt and in cleaning gorse thereon, also in erecting a footbridge at Gaaiack street and at the continuation of Princes street leading to the special settlement. The culvert at Hornbrook street has been repaired, and the fooipalh in Denmark street levelled where water formerly accumulated. A crossing has been made at Hayhuret street. The footpath in Denmark street requires some small gravel from Hornbrook street to Maude street. That portion of Hornbrook street from Denmark street to the south belt is also very wet and holds surface WHter badly. The road ir. front of Mr R. Williams's section is much cut up and requires attention. This is the part opened up by the board alongside the creek. I have been requested to draw the beard's attention to the condition of the unformed portion of Princes street in the deferred p*yment settlement, and also to the drainage of Shaw street. I have arranged to go on with the work in Stndholme street as soon as gorse is cleared. The overseer was instructed to proceed with the repairs to Studholme street at once. He was also authorised to invite tenders for the supply of shingle for the footpath in Denmark street. TENDEBS. The following tenders were received for cleaning water tables for 12 months : —C. McAuliffe, £3O; M. Flaherty, £2B 10s ; J. Woodman, £lB ; J. Boulter, £18; J. Bennett, £18 ; G. Washington, £l4. The tender of G. Washington was accepted. OUTSTANDING KATES, ETO. The clerk was requested to make every effort to collect outetandiog rtrjts, etc, prior to the next meeting of the board, and to sue for rates if necessary. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £9 10s 6d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated^
