The gasmen out on strike at Deeds defeated the police, and prevented five hundred blacklegs from entering the works. Many soldiers and police, and one magistrate, were stoned and seriously hurt.

The Wharf Laborers Union have declined to accept the suggestion of the Sydney Union that the entrance fee to all branches of the union throughout the colony be fixed at £5 ss. They also disapprove of the introduction of the system of the equalisation of labor.

The members of the Tailors’ Union last night decided to boy only the pro ductions of the bool factories working under union rules. A movement is on foot to form a Penmen’s Union, to include all classes of penm p n paid by salary or piecework for copying or compi ation.
