At a meeting of Hie Auckland Chamber of Commerce, a motion, protesting against a continuance of the primage duty as now unnecessary, having served the special purpose for which it was raised, was unanimously agreed to, and the Auckland members were requested to vote against the proposal to continue the duty. At the annual meeting in Christchurch of shareholders of the Union Insurance Company the directors’report, poeoramending the payment of a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum, was unanimouely adopted. The retiring directors, Messrs John Anderson and H. R. Webb, were re-elected unopposed. The chairman, the lion. J.
