ORARI BRIDGE.

“ To the Chairman of the Geraldine County Council. “Sir, —This bridge is badly out of repair* app requires immediately attending to. ' Fat sh|ep fp posing over have had their legs broken { sdjpe qf the pjanjie are loose and partly rotten ; heavy tra'fgc is continually passing over this bridge, in the way of timber and maceinery ; it is on the direct road from Nelson to InverMtgill f 4 fc the annual meeting at the Mount Peel Ropd !goard osjee ? held ip May, and the pieetipg hpld af thp Road Board office, Geraldine, on June 3rd, it was proposed and seconded, and carried unapiipously, “ that the ratepayers in bo*h districts request the Council to stiifa a

rate bo maintain and keep in repair this and other bridges in the county.” We therefore request that the work of making the bridge safe for traffic be put in hand at once, or we fear a very serious accident will happen any day, for which we understand the County Council are liable, and it must come out of our pockets as ratepayers. We would far sooner such a risk were not run by the Council.” , I am, etc., O. G. Tbipp. Orari Gorge, 26th June, 1890. ! P.S.—I hardly expect this petition to have any effect upon the Council, after Mr W. Moore tolling the ratepayers at the public meeting field in Geraldine on June 3rd “ tnat if the ratepayers wanted their bridges kept open, let tyem elect men who were m favor of keeping them open.” This sentiment shows, I think, the feeling of the Council.
