AUCTION ITERS’ REPORTS. GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ended June 21st, 1890, as follows ; During the week business in stock, sheep especially, has been very satisfactory, and prices obtained at auction and privately have been largely in favor of sellers. At the Geraldine Live Stock Market on Wednesday the totals yarded for the day’s sale were 2862 sheep, 40 cattle, 19 pigs. Prices obtained during the sale were— Sheep—Crossbred wethers, 4-tooth, fat, 16s 4d ; crossbred ewes, maidens, 4-tootb, fat, 15s 3d; f-bred wethers and maiden ewes, 2-tooth, 15s Id, 14s sd, to 14s ; crossbred ewes, aged, fat, 10s 6d; crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 2-tooth, in forward condition, 14s, 13s sd, to 13s 3d ; |-bred lambs, 11s 4d to 9s 8d; crossbred owes, in lamb, 9s; merino wethers, stores, ss, Cattle —Fat cows, £4 12s 6d, £4 2s Gd, to £3 5s ; 2-year-old steers and heifers, £2 5a to £1 10s; yearlings, £1 7s 6<i to £1 Is 6d ; calves, 10s 6J ; cows springing, £3 17s 6d to £2. Pigs—Porkers, £1 9s to 14s; small stores, Bs, 7s 3d, ss, to 4s Od. At Washdyke Yards on Thursday we had au extremely small entry of stock, but evidently sufficient for the number of buyers in attendance, proving conclusively that the weekly sales at these yards are a failure. Horses The Bouth Canterbury Saleyard Company held their annual sale at the Washdyke yards uu Tuesday, which proved a decided success, there being a large entry of horses on the hooka of the respective selling agents, and a good attendance of the public; in fact it seemed as if all interested iu this class of stock were on the ground, and for all horses, either draught or, hackney, of really good quality, the' prices obtained will leave a satisfactory profit to the breeders. We are of opinion that at least two such sales should be held in the year. Private Sales —During the week we have disposed of IfiOOfat sheep off turnips for freezing at safoefaefory prices. TIMARU. Mr Mess Jonas reports as follows : Sheep of every description, brokenmouthed ewes excepted, are in good demand, fat sheep especially fetching top prices. In cattle, anything fat or approaching beef sells at good value, but owing to the scarcity of feed stores are not being sought after. 1 he want of rain is being felt very much |ust now, and it is to be hoped for the good of the country that it will soon fall, as ploughing operatins are very late, the ground being eo h.'vrd as to make it in some cases almost impossible. Pleasant Point—The sale held at these yards on the 2nd passed off very successfully. There was a good com-
petition for fat stock, and consequentlvi good prices were obtained. His entry, of sheep numbered nearly 2000, but only a few head of fat cattle came for-i ward, the balance stores and old cows, for which at this time of the year there is little demand. 152 wethers at 15s,i 210 2-tooths at lls lid, 148 hoggets, at 6s Bd, 56 fat ewes at 10s 3d, 184 24 tooths at 13s Bd, 137 hoggets at lls 9d, 95 lambs at 5s sd, 260 half-: bred ewes in lamb at 5s 3d ; 4 fat steers at £4 ss, 5 do at £3 17s 6d, 6 fat heifers at £4 2s 6d ; 8 pigs at 12s 1 Washdyke Yarks—His transactions at these yards daring the past fortnight have been confined to three lines of sheep, which were sold as follows : —92 hoggets at 8s 9 d, 30 fat sheep at lls lid, 40 do at 8s 6d, Sheepskins, Hides, and Fat—During the past fortnight he has put, through over 3000 sheepskins, including freezers, at prices quoted below : Butchers’ crossbreds 3s 7d to 4s 7d, country skins Is 2d to 5s 6d for a small lot of extra heavy, merinos Is lid to 3s 7d, pelts 4d to Is, hoggets Is to 2? 9d, mixed fleece wool in bags to 6d, hides Id to according to weight, and fat 7s to 12s 6d per cwt, according to quality, 763 freezers at 4s 9d. Horses—There was a good entry and large attendance at the annual horse fair, held at the ruiulh Canterbury saleyards, on Tuesday the 17th, The sale, however, was rather a dragging one, the demand being chiefly for good young draughts, of which class there was a very small entry. The ground being so hard just now, extra horses are wanted for ploughing, consequently the few good draughts that were brought forward were well competed and realised good prices. He sold 1 mare at £2l, 1 do at £l7, 1 bay gelding at £6, 1 do mare at £4 10s, 1 do gelding Jubilee (a firstclass hunter) at £3l 10s ; 1 chestnut gelding Boss (a good hunter) at £lB ; and 13 light and heavy horses from £8 to £ls. Messrs William Collins and Co., report a good attendance at their regular weekly corn exchange and auction, held by them on Saturday. The entries were numerous, and the demand for all lines entered was good, with the exception of carcases of pork, which ruled low. Good clean fowl wheat brought 2s 4d, 2s 3d, and 2s per bushel, sacks extra, potatoes, 50s per ton, live pigs 5s to 8s 6d each, hares Is 9cl per brace, bacon pork 3d per lb (several entries were held over), onions Id per lb, pig potatoes 2s 6cl to to 3s 6d per sack, eating do 4s to 4s 6d, butter is 2d per lb.
