LABOR DISPUTES.
Sydney, June 19. A meeting of about 200 shippers, exporters, merchants, and manufacturers pledged themselves to support the ernpleyers in the dispute will! the wharf laborers. The meeting held to Is per hour for 8 hours work end Is 6d for overtime. They decided to sign an agreement not to give any shipowner, agent, captain, or stevedores who infringes the conditions any cargo. The great point in dispute is the laborers, refusal to allow non-union men to be employed, and to allow constant men to work at lower wages or longer hours than casual bands. Wellington, Jane 19. The Wellington Tramway Company’s employee are (at on strike. The num* her is 37, including drivers, grooms, and guards. The strike will not, however, affect the ordinary traffic of the tramway, as the proprietors had previously arranged for a new staff, and the cars are running as usual this morning. The Council will call on all unionists and sympathisers to support the Wellington Bus Company, which has been running in opposition to the tramway for some time. The company found some difficulty in engaging guards, but the difficulty was overcome by the assistance of tbe sous of the proprietors, During the day there has been a good deal of chaff and badinage indulged in by those on strike, but nothing approaching a demonstration was made. Between 5 and 6 o’clock this evening the expressmen, with the view of evincing their sympathy wi h tbe strikers, were conveying passengers free of charge from town to the tramway terminus at Newton,
