WOODBURY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above committee was held on June 7th, 1890. Present —MessrsDean (chairman), Hammond, Webb, Cormack, Dick, and Fiefield. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the secretary Board of Education, intimating that the sum of £5 had been placed in the bank to the credit of the committee, as iacidentals for the second quarter; also covering summary of attendance returns for the quarter ending March 31st, 1890. —Letters acknowledged. From Mr Greaves, head master, stating that as the pupil teachers' examination takes place on the Ist July he would advise the committee to close the school on Friday, the 27th inßt,, for the midwinter holidays, and that school duties be resumed on the following Monday fortnight; also that the bell required immediate attention, the wire having broken.—Eeselved— I" That Mr Greaves' request be granted." From Messrs Fergusson and Scott, making application for use of schoolroom for the purpose of holding a dance on some night suitable to the convenience of the committee. —There was a lengthy discussion on this subject. Messrs Webb and Cormack, as a deputation, applied for the use of the school and grounds on the 28th inst. for the purpose of holding a bazaar, etc., in aid of the Presbyterian Church, Woodbury.—Granted, Proposed by Mr Fiefield, seconded by Mr Webb, and carried—" That the sum of one pound per night be charged for use of rooms for dancing purposes, and that the amount be paid to the chairman in advance." Proposed—" That the chairman be empowered to let rooms for any purpose he may deem advisable, with the Vexception of dancing."—Carried. The chairman stated, as instructed,

be had accepted the lowest tender for firewood, viz., Messrs Webb and Cormack, at £3 18s, for 3 cords mixed and 3 cords of blackpine, and certified that the contract had been faithfully carried out. Accounts to the following amount [ were passed and paid, £6 12s. After a vote of thanks to the chair ' the meeting terminated.
