AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the above board/ was held, last night. Present— Messrs E, Leeif(chairman), E. Yallender, E. Browu, and A. Frew. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read ; ■•s s / ' / \ \ From the Clerk to the County Council advising, that the board’s share of contribution to Hospital and Charitable Aid amounted to, £7 8s 5d for the year ending September 30th, 1890. ; It ’rwas requested that the half of this s'u,m, viz , £3 14s 3d, might be lodged to the credit of the Hospital and pharitable/Aid Board at the Bank of New Zealand on or before June Ist, 1890.—Passed for payment. ■ ' From the Paymaster-General advising that the su'm bf £6O v os, for onethird receipts- of; sales of land on deferred payments from 21st ’Nov. 1881, to.Bth,£opt.‘ IBB‘B, and amounting to £3B 11s Id, together with a balance .of £2l 17s lid, had been remitted to the credit of the board at the Bank of New Zealand, Temuba. 1 INTERVIEW. Mr Flaherty waited upon the board in reference to the cleaning of the creek, and respectfully asked that the penalty might be remitted. He had loot rightly understood the speeificaand was only anxious to make a good job of the contract. , , The board discussed the matter, and decided not to inflict the full penalty as he had gone over portions of the work again. Gentlemen, —1 have the honor to report that io accordance with instructions I invited tenders for shing'ing north town belt. Two tenders were received, nam-ly, P. -O’Mara, Is 2|l per yard for carting shingle and breaking ,Batu°, and T, Drvis, 10J per yard for c-Tting only. They were submitted to the chairman, and ihit of the lattei accepted. The work has been sathfactorily performed. In addiion to shingling the road I have had the np ■proaches to the bridge made up, and sundry repairs executed at the ford and at the juncdon of High street and Wi kin street. The sides of the road h ive a'so been trimmed, and the gotss on the south side grubbed. Two now planks have been substituted fur wiak ones in Tavender’s bridge, and accumulation likely to cause decay have been removed. In all one man has been employed 6| I duly notified the cnniractor for ere k cleaning of the resolution passed at vour
last meeting, I took the average measurement of the creek, and pointed out such work as I considered should be done to biing it up to the specification. He his followed my instruction*, and 1 allowed him to leave the job. The overseer was instructed to effect repairs in Studholme street, as suggested in estimate accompanying report. Some considerable discussien ensued on the specification submitted for cleaning water-tables. Ultimately the overseer was instructed to invite tenders for the work; same to he considered at next meeting. ACCOUNTS. 1 Accounts amounting to £29 8s lid were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
