In answer to a circular from' the department an estimate of the board’s requirements under the head of buildings, of about £6ooo—(£sß9o) —had been sent. This included repairs everywhere, painting 25 schools and supplying a residence to every school needing one, GERALDINE. The architect reported that the contractors for the Geraldine buildings were making good progress, the roof now being coyered. ARUNDEL, Mr Pearpoint l reported on his visit of inquiry to Arundel (Upper Rangiteta bridge). He fonnd that there were 43 children over and 26 under school age there, only 9 of were going to any school, the distances being too great. Two or three of those goiog to school go seven miles three times a week. He had previously, opposed the erection of"a school there ihinkiilg that it would rob other schools. He-found, however, that this would not be the case, and he was surprised to see -how the pla'ca bad gone ahead' during: the last six 'months, and people->wera still coming there. The committee had a Tetter from the board promising a school if tbe committee would give £ls and cart the material, and the committee would do this. He suggested to thei committee that they should have a lean-to, say 28 x 24, which could-’ afterwards be added to, and then form’class-rooms, but they thought they should -have a “ proper ” building, The site was - already! provided, the Qovern-inebt-haying gazetted'lo acres for the 'purpbßo ; 6ometimeegb.
