NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERIES.
London, June 2. Four British warships have left the Bermudas for Newfoundland. It is reported that two French ships are being sent to reinforce the French squadron. The despatch of British .troops to Newfoundland is denied, and the authorities state that the warships have merely proceeded thither to execute their ordinary summer manoeuvres. In reply to a question Sir James Fergusson said that neither the English nor the French Government were aware of the landing of French troops at Bt. George’s Bay, Sy, Johns, June 1. The committee of residents at St. George’s Bay.Newfoundlahd, boarded the H.M.S.'Emerald and implored protection against the proceedings of the French. The captain despatched an officer to investigate the conduct of the latter. The French are sending other warships to the disputed territory. June 3. Newfoundland is willing to allow French fishermen to procure bait, if the French "Government will abolish the system of paying bounties.
