GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this board was held, on Tuead’M evening last. Present— Messrs W. S. M islin (chairman), J, Mundell, N. Dunlop, J. Williams, and A, White. COEEESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :

From the Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, enclosing prices from officers in the Lands Department for making a mop of the town district.—The chairman stated he had accepted the lowest tender, as instructed, and his action was approved of. From the S.C. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking for,the snm of £7 17s Id —the board's contribution to the firstnamed body for the past year—to be forwarded.—Cheque to be drawn. From the town ranger, enclosing his monthly report of cattie found wandering at large. OTEESEEB’S EEPOBT. The overseer’s report was read, and it was decided to,c»!l tenders for supplying 80 yards of road and 20 yards of footpath shingle, the chairman to deal with the same. LB i SING RESERVES. Two tenders were received for leasing! the board’s reserves 345, 346, and 347 J The tender of Mr J. Turner, at 30# pen annum, was accepted, the other beingi informal, INTERVIEW. Mr G. Tayler waited on the board and! asked for a crossing to bis property,! Talbot street,->tp be made to allow of his’ crossing the water raep. He also asked! the board to place a gale across the right-j of-way running throtigh his land to the! riverbed so &s to keep cattle from stray-; ing down there. If'the gate were placed! there he had no objection to allowing thei board or any of the public who wished to I take shingle from the river bed crossing the land. 1 Mr Tayler having withdrawn it was decided to grant the crossing asked for. With regard to the right-of-way it was decided to lhahk Mr Tayler for hie offer, which was considered a liberal one and to inform him that the board desired in the interest of ratepayers to purchase the small piece of land across which the right-of-way runs, and to ask him to submit an offer to the board.

In connecioD with this matter it was pointed out that tha road was laid out to the edge of the river bank, so as to give access to the river, but that after the laying out of the road the Government, in selling « piece of land to Mr Tayler, included by an oversight a narrow strip of a few feet 6h the river bed, and practically closed; the road to the river. It is this strip the board how propose to buy. accounts. Accounts amounting to £lO3 14s Gd were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated. DOMAIN BOARD. A meeting of the Domain Board was hfld afterwards, the same members being present, A letter was received from Mr E. G. Wright, chairman of the Plantation Board, Christchurch, in reply to one from the Domain Board asking for a grant towards planting a belt of trees on the exposed side of the Baakapnk* bush for protection purposes. Mr Wright stated that the funds of the Plantation Board were devoted; to improving the plantutions under the board’s control, but that as the writer would not care to see the Raukapuka bush destroyed he would, if the Domain Board would forward an estimate of the cost and state the class of trees to be planted, lay the matter before bis board, and endeavor! to obtain a grant towards doing the work. It was considered that it would require about 10,009 marcrocarpa and blue gums' to plant the exposed portions, and the 1 cost of the trees and work would be about' £IOO. It was decided to point out to the' Plantation Board that if the whole of the work could not be done at once the Domain Board were anxious to get the 1 most exposed portions planted this season. The overseer reported that soma person had loosened the wires on the fence round the bush park, and several head of cattle had been put in, which he had had impounded. The members were considerably incensed at such conduct, and it was decided to communicate with the

police constable on'thWhiatter. The town ; ranger was also called in, and rtqueetsdi to supply the board with the names of the, owners of cattle impounded from csrtaio; p’aoes, with a view to proceedings-being! taken by the board in the matter. The ovarieer was instructed to put| another barbed wire round the cricket oval, a«d theimeeting terminated.
